Soho Hair, New Haven has been spotting trends for over 35 years, in the hair business it is a necessity to stay on top of trends wherever they are lurkin. Celebrity hair styles always influence clients as we get our daily share of clients bringing in a picture of their favorite star's hair cut or color.  To this end we have enlisted one of our stylists to watch the Oscars,  to spot some new trends in hair and fashion for the coming season.  So here is our take on what we think will influence hair this spring.

Besides the usual chingons, pulled back long ponytails and flowing manes, curls, finger waves," S" waves appeared  to be dominant on many styles, from short to long and everything in between. The glam mysterious  woman look of the 40's film noir era, ala Veronica Lake style, was in play.  Emma Stone, Amy Adams and Emma Roberts to name a few , rocked the "S" waves along with their beautiful hair colors. They were stunning!

But this year there were so many short hairstyles on the Oscars red carpet it was almost impossible to keep track of them.     Whether it was a bob, a pixie cut, or shaved sides ,  it seems many of the stars decided to take the plunge and crop their mane.

Short hair can be super flattering, revealing your face and bone structure in a new way , there is also an inherent freedom that results from this rather brave leap of faith.  A short cut has a way of showing off beautiful jewelry, makeup, and outfits in a way long hair simply can't.

Some of our favorites: Nina Dobrev (texture square bob-lob) Scarlett Johansson (shaved sides long Pompadour Top) Michelle Williams (a short platinum pixie) Janelle Monae (cute pixie) and Ginnifer Goodwin (pixie).

Other celebs who did some daring do's! Halie Berry (asymetrical afro) Katy Perry (short and blonde) even  Justin Timerlake got into the act!

So there you have it.  Don't be surprised to see many more celebrities with short hair this spring and summer, as well as  many of your friends and co-workers, once the short hair vibe sinks in...as usual the east and west coasts get the new trends first!

FYI  if your thinkiing about making a change to shorter hair, our staff at SOHO are highly trained in cutting short hair, come in for a consultation first if  you like (no charge) we know how to put the right cut for your face shape and hair type and we will teach you how to do the styling at home so your brave new look just might open up a brave new world! xo
